Murder, She Wrote

Mechanics' Institute members love mysteries. In fact, about half the fiction books we purchase are mysteries or thrillers - and about half of those mysteries are written by women. While some people may think of Raymond Chandler, Rex Stout, or P.D. James when they think of classic mysteries, where would the genre be without Agatha Christie, Dorothy L. Sayers, or Margery Allingham? Women have been pioneers of the genre since the early days of mystery novels, and today women continue to write bestselling mysteries. Here at the Mechanics' Institute Library we're highlighting women mystery writers for the month of August. Swing by the second floor to check out some popular mystery novels written by women, along with some books you may not have heard of (but we bet you'll enjoy them).
