Mechanics' Institute cordially invites you to our Game Night in the Library, nestled within the enchanting surroundings in our library on the second floor. For this gathering, we celebrate one of the oldest board games in history, called The Royal Game of Ur, not only has a fascinating history but it's easy to learn to play. This two-player game takes about 5-10 minutes to play and you can make your own board and playing pieces using everyday items you may already have around the house.
Join us for a game night to learn about this 4,600 year old board game. MI Librarian Steven Dunlap will demonstrate the game using an authentic replica of the board and pieces found by archaeologists excavating the Royal Cemetery of Ur in Southern Iraq. He will also show you how to make your own board and obtain (or improvise) playing pieces. A combination of game play and a makerspace event.
This event is FREE for Mechanics' Institute members. We encourage you to register for this event to ensure your place in what promises to be a night of memorable competition and camaraderie.
