History & Mission

Founded in 1854, the Mechanics’ Institute is one of the oldest institutions on the West Coast. Our mission is to serve as a vibrant center bring together communities and fostering intellectual and cultural advancement.

We are proud to present our Strategic Plan which outlines the Institute’s vision, key directives, and goals for the coming years. Developed in collaboration with a diverse range of stakeholders, this plan ensures that the Mechanics’ Institute will continue to thrive as a valued educational, cultural, and community resource for both our members and the wider public.
