The Patsy (1928)
Funny Ladies

With Special Guest author and historian Matthew Kennedy

To those who only know Marion Davies from her notorious relationship with William Randolph Heart, The Patsy will be a delightful revelation. Davies’ beauty and comedic gifts are showcased in this silent about a dowdy girl smitten with her older sister’s beau. Determined to “get some personality,” she runs, somersaults, and, in one especially funny sequence, imitates film stars from Lillian Gish to Pola Negri to Mae Murray in an effort to attract the film-struck boyfriend. You’ve seen Davies depicted in movies like The Cat’s Meow and The Cradle Will Rock. Now see, and appreciate, the talents of an unjustly forgotten comedienne.
