CinemaLit: Big Fish (2003)
Farewell, Albert Finney

Directed by Tim Burton

Ewan McGregor, Jessica Lange

Albert Finney was a larger than life actor, so he is perfect in the role of Edward Bloom, a larger than life story-teller whose fondness for tall tales has estranged him from his son, William. When word reaches William that his father is dying, William  returns to Alabama with his pregnant wife to be by Edward’s side – and perhaps learn the truth about a life that has been veiled behind tales of giant fish, mermaids, and werewolves. Fantastic, whimsical, and enthralling, this film is a satisfying fable about the role of stories in life and relationships.
