Advancement Coordinator

The Mechanics’ Institute is seeking an Advancement Coordinator to oversee revenue-generating activities and donor-facing functions. The role will report to the Senior Director of Advancement. The scope of the position includes fundraising, donor cultivation and relations, grant application and management, marketing, and outreach. The successful candidate will have opportunities to develop strategies and create revenue-generating activities. Assist in planning, organizing, and supervising fund development activities, marketing and outreach functions under general direction of Sr. Director of Advancement.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Fund Development

  • Facilitate strong, positive relationships between Mechanics’ Institute and current and potential donors; engage with visitors and potential donors to support and with members and donors to increase support base.
  • Develop and implement fundraising efforts through direct mail, online, digital, and social media efforts. This includes plans for member acquisition, retention and stewardship. 
  • Research grant and other funding opportunities as directed; direct and complete grant and other funding applications.  Secure sponsorships and other funding for educational programs and events.
  • Implement and manage donor relations and donor recognition programs. Coordinate fundraising events.   
  • Provide fundraising and membership support to front line staff.  Work collaboratively with other Mechanics’ Institute staff.
  • Writes, edits, and coordinates online giving and mail campaigns.
  • Develop and execute fundraising outreach, including solicitation emails, documents, invitations to events, and acknowledgements.
     

Marketing and Communications

Coordinate marketing and communications activities including ensuring consistent and positive branding and messaging; provides posts on social media; updates for e-publications and webpages as needed.

  • Plans and participates in outreach campaigns that will have a broad community reach and appeal and directors and monitors the effectiveness of onsite and offsite visitation.
  • Produce a weekly e-newsletter and other email and mail communications highlighting activities and achievements.
  • Support both outreach activities and on-site events for members and donors

Qualifications

Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major work in philanthropy, non-profit management, museum management, grant management, or a related field.

A minimum of two years of demonstrated experience, and measurable results in fund development, sponsorship generation, annual giving and membership programs, donor relations, and/or managing fundraising events.

Compensation and Benefits

  • This is a full-time exempt position
  • The salary range for this role is $70,000-$75,000, commensurate with experience.

Physical Demands

  • Requires the ability to walk, stand, carry materials, stoop, kneel, bend at the waist, reach overhead, and climb stairs.
  • May require sitting and/or standing for long periods of time.
  • May be required to lift up to 25 pounds on a regular basis.

Working Environment

  • Onsite work is performed within a standard office environment and/or chess room.
  • Will be required to operate basic office equipment including but not limited to computer, printers, telephone, etc.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually at low to moderate.
