The Voyage Out
by Virginia Woolf

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS BOOK DISCUSSION HAS BEEN POSTPONED FROM DECEMBER 21 TO JANUARY 18.

Rachel Vinrace embarks for South America on her father's ship and is launched on a course of self-discovery in a kind of modern mythical voyage. The mismatched jumble of passengers – including an early introduction to Clarissa Dalloway – allows Woolf to satirize Edwardian mores, and focuses on Rachel's journey from a cloistered life in a London suburb to freedom, challenging intellectual discourse, and discovery.
