"Those Are as Brothers"
Nancy Hale

A divorcée fleeing an abusive relationship befriends a Jewish refugee who has escaped a concentration camp in Germany. First published in 1941, Nancy Hale’s short story “Those Are as Brothers” examines empathy between characters during a Summer in Connecticut.
