Now, Voyager (1942)
February 2016 - An Affair to Remember

Special guest: film historian Matthew Kennedy, author of Joan Blondell: A Life Between Takes

Directed by Irwin Rapper
Bette Davis, Paul Henreid

Charlotte Vail is overweight, shy, and bespectacled, quailing under the domination of her hypercritical mother. Under the care of a compassionate psychiatrist, Charlotte blossoms and falls in love – with a married man. Bette Davis handles Charlotte's transformation from neurotic frump to a confident, charismatic woman with a believability a more conventionally attractive actress could never have achieved. No easy answers are offered in this intelligent movie, but it remains a truly satisfying love story.
