Arturo’s Island

A prison stands facing the Bay of Naples. There on a tiny island, the motherless Arturo, a young Pocidan, is free while his father is away. But when his father returns with a bride nearly Arturo's age, anger turns towards his stepmother turns to love as Arturo develops romantic feelings. Isabel Quigly translated Arturo's Island by the influential Elsa Morante from Italian to English in 1959.
