Alfred Craig Jackson 1953-2024

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of long-time Mechanics’ Institute librarian, Alfred Craig Jackson. Serving as an employee of the Institute for more than 30 years before his retirement in June, Craig was an integral part of our team and was well loved by staff and members throughout his tenure.

Born in Toronto, Canada, Craig moved to San Francisco in 1989 and proudly became a US citizen in 1999. He held master’s degrees from York University and the University of Toronto, was a highly skilled reference and collections librarian, and spoke several languages.

Craig was known for his gentlemanly manner, calm and poised demeanor, and thoughtful approach to life, and he brought a wonderful spirit to the organization. His life was rich with love for his family, his many friends, and all those whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

In Craig’s honor, our financial newsletter collection will be named "The A. Craig Jackson Collection", paying respect to his many years of teaching specialized classes in personal finance.
