The Writers' Lunch: The Art of the Short Story
with Juniper Prize-winning Author Kerry Dolan

This event will be conducted via Zoom. Register and you will be emailed the Zoom credentials.

The Writers' Lunch is virtually back! This month join us and Juniper Prize winning author Kerry Dolan who will discuss her newly released collection Safe Places and the art of the short story with SF author Matthew Iribarne. Dolan completed the collection while a member of the Mechanics' Institute.

About Safe Places: In this prizewinning debut collection, Dolan explores the vagaries of life, human connection, and desire. Called "a rumination on love, loyalty and chance, a story collection brimming with surprises" (Noy Holland), "a must-read collection" (Peter Orner), and "a blues song in the key of Berriault, Michaels, and Paley...with a psychology so fine it aches" (Edie Meidav), the twelve stories of Safe Places chart the uncertainty of modern life.

Kerry Dolan won the Juniper Prize for Fiction for her collection Safe Places, released in 2022. A fellow of MacDowell, the Ucross Foundation, VCCA, and elsewhere, Dolan's stories have appeared in a number of anthologies and magazines. She is currently working on a novel. More information at kerrydolan.net.

Matthew Iribarne is the author of the book Astronauts and Other Stories. His stories have appeared in the Southern Review, Glimmer Train, the New England Review, and the Chicago Tribune.

The Writers' Lunch is a casual brown-bag lunch activity on the 3rd Friday of each month. Look forward to mini-reviews on books that have been added to our "literary craft" collection, informal presentations by member writers, and excellent conversation. Please contact Taryn Edwards if you have any questions or if you would like to be a panelist. [email protected]

Rick Homan, who normally moderates the Writers' Lunch, writes murder mysteries and suspense novels. His Nicole Tang Noonan mysteries are set on a college campus in rural Ohio and in San Francisco, Nicole's home town. Prior to taking up the craft of crime fiction, Rick performed as an actor and guitarist. Find out more at www.rickhoman.com.
