Murder by Decree (1979)
October 2015: A Dark and Stormy Night

Directed by Bob Clark
Christopher Plummer, James Mason

Sherlock Holmes: [to Lestrade] When people are frightened, they turn to God, and when they have no help from him, they look to the Devil.

Who, other than Sherlock Holmes could investigate and solve the granddaddy of all true crime mysteries, the Jack the Ripper murders? What other crime could possibly crack the imperturbable detective’s logical and emotionless façade? Christopher Plummer dons Holmes’ deerstalker hat and joins a spectacular cast that includes James Mason, David Hemmings, John Gielgud, Donald Sutherland, and Genevieve Bujold. In this lush recreation of the Victorian era, London is a city replete with violence, secrets, and conspiracies that stretch from the depths of Whitechapel to the highest reaches of British society -- and not even Sherlock Holmes may be able to bring one of history’s most terrifying serial killers to justice.
