Special guest: film historian Matthew Kennedy, author of Joan Blondell: A Life Between Takes.
Directed by Jean Negulesco
Joan Crawford, John Garfield
Wealthy, adulterous self destructive Helen Wright was a role made for Joan Crawford, and the always tightly wound John Garfield was the perfect foil for an actress who needed leading men she could truly sink her teeth into. Garfield is Paul Boray, a talented violinist who has fought his way into music in spite of a working class background and a disapproving father. Until he meets socialite Helen Wright, he lacks the connections that would enable a career as a concert musician. Can he separate love from ambition? Will Paul’s music survive? Will the scenery?
