Literature Seminar

This course asks: What is the relationship of human beings to nature? And to their own "nature"?

Readings for the semester include:

Oedipus at Colonus by Sophocles
The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin
Selections from Poems for the Millennium Volume 3 by Jerome Rothenberg & Jeffrey C. Robinson
The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx & Friedrich Engels
The Epic of Gilgamesh
The Confusions of Young Törless by Robert Musil
Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys

  • The group meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month from 6:45pm to 7:45pm at Mechanics’ Institute, following the Proust Seminar at Mechanics’ Institute.
  • This semester will begin on September 12, 2018 and end February 27, 2019.
  • Registration is open to all. Mechanics' Institute members pay $70 for each 5-month session; Members of the public pay $100.
