Original Beauty

Over the last year and a half, we’ve been working closely with the City of San Francisco and architectural experts to restore the façade of the Mechanics’ Institute. Since the scaffolding was removed from the front of the building in March, Mechanics’ Institute members and neighbors have been awed by the bright, white façade restored to its original splendor. Members and visitors stop me in the hallways and on the street to share their excitement about the renovation. The reconstruction and painting of the building’s decorative features reflects the Institute’s inviting space, where all are welcome to partake in this unique oasis of knowledge, quiet, and creativity. There is more work on the building ahead, but let’s take a moment to celebrate the restored beauty of our building's face to the world. A heartfelt thanks to all who have contributed to the restoration. You have made a lasting difference to the Mechanics’ Institute.
