Neon Photography on the 4th Floor

In case you haven’t been up to the fourth floor recently, we’ve flipped our art display case. It now holds photography from Al Barna and Randall Ann Homan’s book, San Francisco Neon: Survivors and Lost Icons. Though we only have four pictures on display, they are gorgeous!

The book features over 200 more, and if you’d like to see them you’re in luck, it’s on our shelves! As much a history and tour book as a photo journal, SF Neon contains essays by neon experts and travel writers, local stories and oral histories, and an index by neighborhood. Ever wonder where these signs came from, how they’re made, or how long they’ve been there? SF Neon has the answers!

If you’re really intrigued, you may want to check out San Francisco Neon and the Historic Neon Network, whose goal is to support the “national and international movement to appreciate and restore historic neon signs and in turn to support neighborhood vibrancy in low-opportunity neighborhoods and historic corridors.”

If you’ve had enough of reading and want a night out, you may want to go to the webpage http://neonbook.xyz/tours.html for information about neon walking tours through San Francisco and Oakland, led by the authors. And next time you visit us, go on up to the 4th floor and see the new display!

One last pic, just for you.
