Celebrating National Library Week Mechanics’ Institute Library at Your Service

Although our doors are closed during National Library Week, Mechanics’ Institute (MI) staff have been busy connecting in other ways to engage members and expand Library services. Many previously scheduled programs have moved online, more digital content has been added, and all new fines have been waived during the COVID-19 closure. As always, the Library is just a click away from being at your service. In the absence of a more personal touch, we sincerely hope you will find your virtual place at MI Library.

Here are a number of ways you can connect with us from home:

Robust digital collections - The library has the latest eBooks, eAudiobooks, and eMagazines, as well as tens of thousands of magazine articles, financial information resources, and more in its research databases tab on the website. These can be accessed 24/7.

The MI Blog contains valuable information about library events, calendar items, new materials, and more.

Events - Check out our upcoming April 22 free event, “Health, Rest and Tech Boundaries During Coronavirus” with author Tiffany Shlain on Zoom. You will also find book group meetings, knitting meet-ups, scholarly discussions, live chess tournaments, and a livestream virtual tour of MI Library on the events page. Access these and other events here.

Social Media - Follow or like us on Facebook (@MILibrary), Instagram (@milibrary),  or Twitter (@milibrary). Staff librarians post continuously to keep you up to date on MI events and changes at the library.

The Chess Club is hosting regular events and classes online. To view the schedule, please visit the chess club website here. To receive regular notifications of chess events, sign up here.

If you have any questions about your library account or how to access digital resources, please email [email protected] or call 415-393-0102. Please hold your book returns until MI re-opens, date to be determined. We will respond to inquiries as soon as possible.
