Internet Archive
The Internet Archive is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that was founded to build an Internet library. Its purposes include offering permanent access for researchers, historians, scholars, people with disabilities, and the general public to historical collections that exist in digital format.
Founded in 1996 and located in San Francisco, the Archive has been receiving data donations from Alexa Internet and others. In late 1999, the organization started to grow to include more well-rounded collections. Now the Internet Archive includes: texts, audio, moving images, and software as well as archived web pages in our collections, and provides specialized services for adaptive reading and information access for the blind and other persons with disabilities.
Patrick & Co
Patrick & Co is a family-owned office supply company with a 142 year history in San Francisco, with three retail locations in San Francisco and a website featuring more than 30,000 items. In 1873, San Francisco was receiving clipper ships from the Orient, rail car ferries from California's interior and new firms were popping up like weeds in the sand dunes. Patrick & Co., its forerunners Moise-Klinker Company, put its first sign out saying “BUSINESS SUPPLIES AND RUBBER STAMPS”. Twenty years later James M. Patrick, encouraged by the Mid-Winter Fair of 1893 and its associated good economy, launched Patrick & Co in a small room at 318 California Street selling rubber stamps, signs and related products. Today Patrick & Co operates under the leadership of Jim and Jamie Patrick.
The Prelinger Library
The Prelinger Library is an independent research library cofounded in 2004 by Rick and Megan Prelinger. It is located in San Francisco’s South-of-Market neighborhood and it is open to anyone for research, reading, inspiration, and reuse. The library is primarily a collection of 19th and 20th century historical ephemera, periodicals, maps, and books, most published in the United States. Much of the collection is image-rich, and in the public domain. The library specializes in material that is not commonly found in other public libraries.
San Francisco Writers' Grotto
The San Francisco Writers' Grotto is a place where up to 60 working writers share office space and create community. The Grotto runs more than fifteen classes a week at its South Park space, all taught by writers who have been published in their various genres. Classes include memoir, writing the novel, personal essay, short story, screenwriting, blogging, writing for magazines, even how to get an agent.

Shaping San Francisco is a participatory community history project documenting and archiving overlooked stories and memories of San Francisco through our digital archive, Foundsf.org, and public programming such as talks, and walking and bicycle tours. Western Neighborhoods Project
The Western Neighborhoods Project (WNP) is a 501(c)3 California nonprofit corporation with a mission to preserve and share the history and cultures of the neighborhoods of western San Francisco. Since 1999, WNP has fostered understanding of local history via presentations, lectures, movies, walks, oral history programs, and websites, while raising awareness of historic structures, secret stories, and neglected communities on the west side. This archive of newspapers, scrapbooks, ephemera, and tens of thousands of photographs is open to the public for research. Not just a historical society, the Western Neighborhoods Project shares stories of the past to help people better understand the present and improve the future.
