There are good reasons to forecast a bright future for Montreal's Atwater Library and Computer Centre, founded in 1828 as a mechanics' institute.
Being independent, having no endowment fund, and receiving little core funding from governments, we are forced to hustle and operate frugally. We are quick to seize new opportunities to fulfill our mission. To keep payroll costs affordable, we have a vibrant volunteer program.
We deliver a wide range of educational, cultural and social programs, both in our heritage building and through community outreach. Current programs of note include financial literacy for retirement and for young families, digital literacy in partnership with a host of community groups and schools, and activities celebrating writers. A writers’ museum is an exciting idea for the future.
