Chess Openings Reclassified

As you may know, the Mechanics' Institute Library has the second-largest collection of chess materials in the United States. While a great resource, the sheer size of the collection can sometimes make it difficult for players to find exactly what they want. To help our chess-playing patrons, the library recently completed an extensive project collecting and re-cataloging our works on chess openings, grouping them together in the same area of opening. Want to brush up on your King's Indian? Looking for a new defense against Ruy Lopez? And just what the heck is the Hippo anyway? Well, now you can easily find out!
This collection, which can be found in our stacks at 794.1225, is organized around the codes from the Encyclopedia of Chess Openings for ease of searching. A few titles with the new classification include:
Dangerous weapons. The Sicilian / by John Emms.
Opening repertoire: the French defence / Cyrus Lakdawala.
We invite all our chess players to take a look for themselves and give us feedback on how well the new system is serving you.
